the trip
our story starts in february 2006 with an impromptu trip to portland for the portland lindy exchange. around 10:30 at night, i decided that i wanted to go. about half an hour later buzz, virgil and i were on the road.
from there, my boss flew me to new york city to do a bit of work. three weeks worth of work, to be exact.
then to sacramento, for the sacramento lindy exchange. which was pretty OK as well.
somewhere in the middle of that month as a vagabond, i realized what a tentative concept 'home' is.
it was as if i didn't have a home. sure i was paying rent. my clothes and everything had somewhere to live.
but why did it have to be that way? i worked for a company based in connecticut. and i lived almost all the way across the country. i had very few commitments, nothing other than the ties of acquaintances to keep me in one place over another. but i have friends everywhere.
so what was keeping me in one place? i couldn't figure it out.
i decided to leave...
during the trip i wrote a faq page. i'm keeping it around, but it's no longer updated, since i'm no longer on a summer long scooter adventure.
stage zero
road trip beta test
i prepared for my crazy summer adventure with a trip to saint george for a cinco de mustache party. and with a lot of help from the scooter lounge.
stage one
mission: provo to seattle in time for the blues party
at this point my only plan was to make it to seattle in time for a blues party. i guess things didn't go quite as planned.
stage two
wandering washington
i spent the better part of a month wandering around washington state. a week with my sister and her husband in wenatchee. a week at my parents' house. a week or so in seattle. up to canada (yeah, i know that's not in washington)... one night of dancing at the abbey in tacoma, and on to oregon.
stage three
oregon
portland is one of my favorite cities. good people, great things to do. i went to a scooter rally, a drive-in movie, the tillamook cheese factory, and a whole lot of dances. one night in a random guest bedroom in eugene, and i was on my way.
stage four
mad dash to cali
a good friend called me that wednesday night, when i was dancing in eugene. she told me she would be leaving for the east coast. in three days. i decided i wanted to see her before she left. so i went to cali.
stage five
so cal
80's dancing at club bang! spending time at the beach. disneyland. dancing at lindygroove. everybody loves so cal.
stage six
stella 'sploded
riding up the 1 near pismo beach one night, my engine blew up. i parked it, wrote a blog post about the waves. got a ride to the bay area then to seattle.
stage seven
stuck in sac
unfortunately the last month of my scooter adventure was spent in sacramento rebuilding an engine. i like the kids there, but i had to stay way too long. but that's how our story ends.
